Captain
Caveman and Son was a segment on The Flintstone Kids. The
segment was actually a show within a show. The youngsters from
The Flintstone Kids (Betty, Wilma, Barney and Fred - along
with several friends) always looked forward to the next
episode of their favorite TV program, starring that hairy
precursor to modern man, Captain Caveman. Right before the
show aired the kids would gather in front of their stone-age
television and, with great excitement, proclaim the merits of
their favorite superhero. This scene would act as a segue to
the episode of Captain Caveman and Son that they, and the
audience at home, would be watching.
It was up to the heroic and hairy
Captain Caveman and his equally hairy son, Cavey Jr., to keep
the criminal element of Bedrock in check. The captain
continued to use the same multi-purpose club he possessed
during his stint on the 1980 series Captain Caveman and the
Teen Angels. The club gave the captain the ability to fly and
could also pop open to reveal any number of handy gadgets.
Cavey was perhaps a few branches below his contemporaries
on the evolution tree, but his son could be counted on to
point the befuddled superhero in the right direction. More
often than not though, Cavey's villainous nemeses helped
defeat themselves through their own incompetence.
Captain Caveman and Son aired
along with The Flintstone Kids for two seasons on ABC’s
Saturday morning lineup. The series returned briefly to
Saturday morning at the start of 1990 before being put into
the rotation of the syndicated package The Funtastic World of
Hanna-Barbera. |
