As
the show’s theme song informed us, “Jim was just a
dirt-eating, chewing length of worm.” But when a special
“supersuit” fell from outer space, literally on top of
him, Jim knew his days of eating dirt and dodging early
birds were through.
The quirky, “groovy” animated kid’s show Earthworm Jim,
based on the popular video game of the same name, debuted
on the WB Network in 1995. Jim discovered that while
donning the otherworldly outfit, he was given super
powers, along with the standard superhero bulking
physique. Together with his trusty sidekicks, Peter Puppy
and Snott, Jim assumed his role as a protector of peace
and eradicator of evil.
The hero’s weapon of choice was a special ray gun,
which came in handy when battling villains such as Evil
the Cat, bounty hunter Psy-Crow, and the fearsome Queen
Slug-For-a-Butt. When Jim learned that the Queen had
incarcerated her own beautiful twin sister, Princess
What's Her Name, he knew it was his duty to rescue the
damsel before it was too late. Not that locomotion was any
problem for this particular earthworm - Jim also ported
around a large, rider-carrying rocket that somehow fit
inside his pocket.
Earthworm Jim proved that just because you're one of
the simplest living organisms on the earth whose diet
consists entirely of dirt, it doesn't mean you can't be a
superhero. It just puts a limit on your range of costumes. |

"Earthworm Jim,
From the soil
he did crawl
Earthworm Jim,
A super suit
did fall
Jim was just a
dirt eating,
Chewing length
of worm, flash
But all that
came to a crash
And gave him
lots of power
Earthworm Jim,
He's such a
groovy guy
Earthworm Jim,
He rockets
through the sky
Cruising
through the universe
Having lots of
fun,
Here comes
Earthworm Jim you know
That he's the
mighty one
Look out!
La la la la, la
la la la, la la la ...
Despite his
great big muscles
And his really
big ray gun,
Jim is still an
earthworm
But then he's
the only one,
With a super
suit to make him really super strong,
Jim can be a
winner if we only sing along ...
(ALRIGHT)
Earthworm Jim,
We think he's
mighty fine
Earthworm Jim,
A hero for all
time
Earthworm,
Earthworm,
Earthworm,
Earthworm, Jim
Hooray for
Jimmmmmmmm
-Groovy." |
