Synopsis:

Brendon Small was an eight-year-old aspiring movie director who lived with his divorced mother Paula and his baby sister Josie, a pre-tot with glasses.

With the help of his best friends Jason and Melissa, Brendon created his masterpieces with the limitations of an eight-year-old's budget: a hand-held camera, homemade props, and a cast that consisted entirely of the three friends assuming various roles. Despite his limited resources, most people could see that Brendon had potential.

Also appearing regularly on the show were Brendon's other classmates and teachers - the most prominent being his hapless soccer coach McGuirk, an irresponsible loud-mouth who was always ready to hand out advice.

The series was made using an animation process known as Squigglevision for its first season, and Flash for its second and later seasons. Home Movies was short lived on its premiere station UPN, until Cartoon Network picked up the series and aired it as part of its Adult Swim block of programming.
