Fighting for
truth, justice and the last piece of pizza, five teenagers
with special powers formed the superhero group, the Teen
Titans. Taken from the pages of the popular DC Comics' comic
book, this was not the first made for television incarnation
of the Teens, but it was the first full length series. A
similar group first appeared on TV in the 1967 version of
Filmation's, The Teen Titans, but the membership was different
and they were limited to only three episodes - as a backing
segment on The Superman/Aquaman Hour Of Adventure.
The roster for the Teen Titans of 2003 consisted of five
well-known members from the comic's pages. The acrobatic and
daring group leader, Robin, had a stocked utility belt and
showed no fear. Beast Boy was small in stature and quick with
a joke, but he could shift into
the form of any animal,
from a tiger to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Starfire was new to Earth
and naive in the ways of its cultural subtleties, but when it
came time for a throwdown, her firepower packed a mean wallop.
The spooky, deadpan Raven could control inanimate objects with
her powerful mental abilities, and hulking Cyborg was half-man
and half-machine, with an arsenal of high-powered weaponry at
his command.
The five youths lived together in Titans Tower, a giant
T-shaped structure that was part high-tech command center and
part ultimate teen hangout. Stacked with an impressive video
game console, a weight room, a huge TV - it had everything a
superhero could want. But there were also stacks of dirty
dishes in the sink and races to snag the last soda from the
refrigerator. The heroes enjoyed normal teen activities, like
hanging out with friends, playing video games and going to
parties, all while dealing with the growing pains of
adolescence and saving the world from evil-doers. |
