Wally Gator lived
at the city zoo, but a zoo can get boring to an alligator who
needs a little excitement now and again. Kindly zoo keeper Mr.
Twiddles had his hands full trying to keep Wally from "escaping"
the zoo (which usually amounted to walking out the front gate)
in search of some adventure. Wally would occasionally return to
the Florida Everglades where he had been raised.
Seeking excitement
is a fine thing, but Wally Gator never had much luck staying out
of trouble, which always seemed to find him. His favorite
catchphrase was, "Like I always say sometimes..." followed by
some sentiment the audience hadn't heard him utter previously.
Like so many other
Hanna-Barbera characters, Wally Gator appeared in numerous other
series, such as Yogi's Gang (1973) and
Scooby's All Star Laff-A-Lympics
(1977)
once his own self-titled series came to an end.
